About the Nebraska Center for Virology

Established in the fall of 2000 under the NIH Institutional Development Award (IDeA) program, we were formed to combine the expertise of Nebraska’s leading biomedical research institutions: University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Creighton University. Since our inception, we’ve focused on researching important viral diseases of humans, including HIV-1, Kaposi’s Sarcoma and herpes, as well as viruses within plants and animals. Supported by the Center’s four core facilities: Flow Cytometry, Proteomics, Microscopy, and Bioinformatics, our department features faculty engaging in mentoring young scientists and students from the U.S. and abroad and seek to attract more researchers to Nebraska.

Lincoln, NE

Lincoln, NE

Ask anyone from around here. We love our great city. We love it almost as much as our city love football. Lincoln, also known as the Cornhusker State, is where this year’s Aquatic Virus Workshop will be held. Home of The University of Nebraska–Lincoln, you’ll find quite a lot to do here. Somewhere between Jazz In June and visiting local craft breweries, you might find time to enjoy some of our historical landmarks. From bike routes to museums, we think you’ll a lot to like about our city.

The Good Life

Our State

The centrally located state of Nebraska is home to many beautiful and wonderful attractions. If you want to venture out away from Lincoln and look into what makes Nebraska so interesting, you can start with the Sandhills or the Ashfall Fossil Beds. See awesome museums like the SAC museum or visit our world renown Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.
